What to Wear for Your Engagement Pictures

“So… what should we wear?” is probably the top question I am asked while planning with my couples for their engagement (or Anniversary) session. I totally understand the dilemma. This is an exciting time and you want to look your best while wearing something that will photograph well and let you and your love be the focus. So, let me walk you through my tips on choosing the right outfits for the occasion !

For the Lady, dresses are almost always a wonderful choice. They allow you to move freely while they keep their shape. Sleeves are extremely flattering, especially if you are at all self-conscience of your arms. Alina in this Paper Crown Navy Florence dress from Rent the Runway is absolutely gorgeous.

For the Gentleman, nice slacks and a great sweater or jacket to polish off the look is key. Make sure they are well-fitting and comfortable!

Keep it simple. Solid main pieces paired with a great accessory is the way to go. I love Konstantin’s Classic-meets-fun polkadot bowtie and Alina’s fancy-yet whimsical necklace from Anthropologie.

Alina’s bright lip shade paired with her classic navy dress is a wonderful pop of color and fun. Although, Konstantin did end up getting some on his lips as well…. You are a great sport!

Coordinate, don’t match. It is important that you choose colors and shades that work well together, but if Alina were to be wearing a cream dress, for example, that would be too much of the same!

Textured fabric and lace can be a wonderful way to add interest, without the busyness of a pattern. Definitely stay away from stripes and logos! A dress that flows will give great movement and add some fun to your images!

Getting your hair and makeup done professionally is always recommended as well. It is a good chance for a run-through with them for wedding day!
